Nah, mythicals now are simply normal pokemon given the mythical title for no real reason that the mailman hands off to you.

I mean seriously, the most recent mythical is just Primape, oh, but he has vines!

I mean, I just looked up the Shug Monkey, and I'm not sure what sort of connection there is. I'd imagine a Shugmon being part ghost type or something and being all mysterious or something, at least based on what I read about the lore behind it. Zarude's bio is basically "This pokemon is a dick that lives in the woods with others of it's kind. Also it has vines that slap shit".

That aside, a mon more closely based on Shug Monkey would be pretty awesome.

It's a rarely seen, black-haired shaggy monkey. The grass type is because the Shug Monkey lived in an overgrown area.

Pokérus.
Would be interesting having some sort of plot shrink ray device that takes you to some microscopic place where you can see this kind of pokémon, have them act as Ultra Beasts in terms of weirdness and have the plot device let you turn them bigger so you can use them in battles.

I mean, just reading his bio, I don't see anything about it being rarely seen, more so that people and pokemon actively avoid it intentionally as it's an ass.

As for it being shaggy... I mean, it's head is a bit shaggy I suppose, but for something thats supposedly based on a creature thats half sheepdog, idk, it's not really selling it. Honestly, it looks more like it's based on a baboon, which also have fluffier heads (heck, a standard baboon is shaggier looking overall than Zarude).

I think you're giving GF a bit too much credit. They simply took details of the Shug Monkey and ran with it, why else would the mythical in the British region be a black scary monkey? The rarely-seen is because it's a mythical that isn't in the Galar dex yet.

Oh trust me, I'm not giving them an ounce of credit. I'm saying that Zarude in general is a poor execution. If it's based on the Shug Monkey, then they did a poor job of living up to the creature in general and could have done a LOT more with it, and if it's just a normal monkey, then it's a pretty mild idea for a mythical overall.
