On my return to the series in Gen IV, I had fully accepted the childish bent of the games, knowing they were the same as I'd started with in essence. Situation hasn't changed since, I'm still enjoying them for what they are. You're the one crying over them. Also, don't kie to yourself, the objective fact that Gen II sold more than it shows a lot of people stopped giving a fuck for Pokémon by Crystal/RS time (Crystal and Emerald both being the lowest-selling Upper versions is also an indication of when it started to die out). Just because you were a kid and all the other kids were talking about it, doesn't mean the world at large was.
