Beast Type. It's normal adjacent and would mostly be added/swapped to a lot of existing Normal types like Fairy was for Psychic. It symbolizes feral strength as opposed to Fighting applying more to combat feats.

Super effective against Fairy, Dark
Not very effective against Steel, Flying, Fire, Ice
Ghost types are immune

Potential Beasts
Snorlax, Luxray, Herdier, Darminatan, Raticate, Bewear, Manectric, Slaking, Granbull etc.

Houndoom is the most problematic barrier for Beast type. It would have to lose Dark type but it’s design is blatantly Dark. The same could be said for Luxray though and it never had Dark.

Oh yeah both good contenders. Could also be a buff for Typhlosion. I think Bite/Crunch could be swapped to Beast. They were never that Dark type evocative to begin with.

“Plastic,” “Silicone,” or “Artificial” type. Artificial is probably the best, more broad term here. Basically like a digital type but could include anything man-made. So the porygons, but also mewtwo and castform. Cyber always felt too specific, especially if a cyber pokemon would work as electric anyways. Artificial/Electric duel type maybe?

Type resistances and effectiveness would be hard to come up with. I imagine something like it’s super effective against grass and/or fairy because how humans shape the land into their own, but is also 2x weak to it since eventually nature will win in the end when humans leave.

Clown Type
SE against Psychic (clowns are scary), Ghost (can't be spooked if you're laughing), and Dragon (dragon being the king of types and the court jester being the one who can criticize the king).
NVE against bug (bugs have no sense of humor), grass (plants have no sense of humor), ground (clowns falling down is silly), dark (too serious and edgy to laugh), and fairy (mischief vs mischief).
Weak against ground (because of falling over), water (washes away makeup), bug (hard to concentrate on being funny with bugs crawling all over you), and normal (normal people hate clowns).
Resistant to electric (joy buzzer), fighting (it would just be slapstick), rock, steel (more slapstick, think of a rock or anvil falling on a clown's head), fire (clowns do tricks with fire all the time), and fairy (mischief vs mischief)
Pokemon who'd change type are the Mime line, Blacephalon, Primarina, Gurrdurr, and Conkeldurr.

He means those are the types that cover sound themes. I get ground (seismic waves), fairy (1-2 fairy moves are sound based) and normal (regular sound based attacks), but I have no idea what steel or flying have to do with sound.

I recall one that considered splitting water up considering that the properties of literal water and an animal that lives in water vary greatly. Like for example water is good at absorbing heat, but actual sea creatures are very sensitive to sudden temperature changes.

Unfortunately when it came to attacks what to call it or even how to handle the type split it all fell apart and devolved into name calling.

Fungus type, works in concept but would need lots more pokemon to its name, also making a mon which isnt a mushroom fungus type might clash with the artstyle of the game due to being to overtly dark
Ore and Alloy type, basically designed to split steel into a more offensive variant and a classically defensive one, also contrasting natural metalish/crystal mons and industrial/artificial ones.
The problem with adding a new pokemon type is that most ideas cant apply to enough older mons. Fairy had all those cute normals to work off of but what can any other ideas have?

Mechanic type
Gem type
Cave type
Foam type
Fruit/veggie type because not all the plant type are edibles.

Type is based on my entry level 5 minute googling I did on quantum physics. The reason I chose for Quantum type to be super effective against steel, electric, and water were due to the exposing effect QP had on the properties of these things. I chose fairy because it represents order, and was meant to bring balance to the type chart. QP is basically unpredictible and uncomprehensible chaos, which throws a wrench into order and balance.

Normal and Bug resist because QP tend to have an insignificant or un-noticeable impact on the everyday lives of living organisms who are blissfully unaware that QP even exists. Dragon resisits because it also represents chaos. Fight is immune because it represents light, and light was shown to behave differently under quantum physics. Kind of a stretch but whatever

Resists Psychic because QP is fucking hard as shit to comprehend, Electric because of 'Quantitized Properties'

I threw dragon in as a weakness because chaos beats chaos. Fight see above, same with immunity to fairy. Probably a lot of reaching in here but thats my story and im stickin to it

Very close second to type compression; has an interesting relationship with ther type chart. Would have given it another "deals 2x damage against X" matchup, though (Flying or Electric might have been decent candidates). Beast/Feral probably could have been a decent alternative to Fairy (just have it resist Dragon among a few other types).

Here's the problem with this line of reasoning: most Fairy type Pokemon weren't changed from Normal type, and among those that were, they met a very specific criteria (two of three evo lines literally called 'Fairy Pokemon').

Here's the second issue: what is a 'Beast type' in relation to Normal? Are all mammalian Pokemon now Beast type, or just some of them? Despite how often this type is brought up, the actual defining characteristics are quite vague, and seem to only exist to 'fix' Normal types (because having a neutral type is somehow a problem to begin with?).

I hypothesized it there because I think Fairy needs a counter and Ice type needs a buff. Not every mammalian Pokémon would be a beast type, just ferocious ones with teeth. Normal would still exist as a type that describes some plain, object, and docile mammalian Pokémon.

This still just seems like a trivial way to break up the Normal type, seeing as fighting with claws/teeth is sort of its thing. Also you don't need to make a new type to balance the game, if that wasn't obvious.

If I attack with seismic tremors, is that the same as attacking with sharp, pointed stones? If I'm a ground-dwelling animal, is that the same as being a reanimated fossil?

Because regardless of whether I have poison or am made of poison, I'm still attacking you with poison. Its a narrow niche that requires cannibalizing an existing type to justify itself. Sure you can say rock/ground or water/ice are the same "element" but they don't overlap in how they function; you can't say the same for 'poison' and 'pollution'.
