Didn't support GB or GBC carts, and the DS had backwards compatibility with GBC.

I just bought one. Its amazing, far more pleasant to use than the gba or sp, and when I need to trade between cartridges I just use the other handhelds.
planning to buy another one for later use.

Just bought one. I've all the other systems and this one is amazing if you're intending to play 3rd gen. Ive also bought the ez flash omega which supports non patched rtc roms.
Very small, less than half of a folded SP, screen looks gorgeous and you can play it one handed.
Highly recommend to grab one while they're still around.

Yes. I played Sapphire in one of those first so the graphics and speed were highly disappointing in the GBASP.

I got one of these for $40 at a retro game store lol

My hands are huge but it’s not that bad to play, you just have to hold it with your wrists/elbows wide. Wish my ruby cart didn’t have a dead battery, but I can play Fire Emblem just fine

It’s the same resolution you fucking retard. This is like saying that watching a 1080p movie on an iPhone X would decrease the image quality compared to watching it on 21” monitor. If they have the same number of pixels it doesn’t matter.

Nintendo says that a lot. Remember that:
The DS totally wasn't replacing the GBA
The Switch totally wasn't replacing the WiiU
The Wii totally wasn't replacing the GCN

It's weird how Nintendo loves that line so fucking much and keeps using it over and over. Hell I doubt they've ever admitted they were ending a system outside the N64 to GCN era.

The DS was an unknown gamble. They said that so if the DS flopped they could just go back to the Gameboy name and make another one. Once sales on the DS proved to be good, the GBA was killed off.

They pulled the same trick when they announced the Switch, saying it wouldn't replace the 3DS, but the 3DS is pretty much gone now.
