I’d cut out his Palpitoad, Pignite, Leavany for Solosis, Cubchoo and Venipede. They all fully evolve. Snobby evolves into Servine. Charizard doesn’t return either fuck that.

I’ve never watched an episode of BW.

Why did Tepig evolve when everyone dislikes Pignite? Why did it stay a Pignite?
Why didn't Oshawott become a Dewott?
Why Boldore of all things?
Palpitoad and Scraggy should have evolved for sure.
Fucking female Unfezant and not the male one? They wanted the Unova team to be as bland as possible.
Did Charizard even do anything? Ash's Charizard is a piece of shit anyway it doesn't deserve any extra wank.

Like everyone else has already said, team is so bad

They probably didn’t want it to overlap with Bianca’s emboar/ wanted it to stay “cute.” Pig Ganon would also probably take more effort to make it seem endearing.

Probably wanted something bulky and not bipedal like torkoal, or grottle before it. They then promptly forgot about it. It also didn’t help that Brock was replaced by Cilan so he couldn’t be the bulky mon user.

I bet that the writers locked themselves into that one after making snivy’s gimmick attract. Ash only had the rat, two starters, and pidove at the time, so pidove had to be female. Don’t want ash to have too many girl starters on the team or else you’ll lose the little boy audience.

IIRC, Gigalith was too hard to animate, so Boldore was doomed to never evolve. But I love the idea of Braviary instead of Unfeazant.

Pikachu, Osahwatt, Servine, Braviary, Reuniclus, Scrafty, Beartic, Scolipede, Krookodile and maybe Boldore/Gigalith sounds based.

Pikachu has to stay. Oshawott evolves instead of Ash getting the toad, and fully evolves vs. the last gym. Servine because he needs and NFE, evolves vs Clay. Unfezant and Krookdile are the same. Volcarona replaces scraggy but only evolves near the very end 5~ episodes. Best wishes still need a rewrite

And they had the perfect opportunity to evolve it too since Ash's rival had a Timburr and everyone speculated about a possible trade evolution episode, but instead the rival evolved his Pokemon off-screen and Ash never got a Gigalith

IIRC, the reason Ash's Tedpig was the one to evolve was because they were intentionally trying to make the Gen 5 anime a complete rehash of the OG series.

Looking at Masuda's blog, it's obvious he wanted to recreate the feeling of playing Gen 1 for the first time by having everything be new - and familiar - with the intent of overwhelming (he uses overwhelm A LOT when referring to Gen 5) the past games. Gen 4 was planned for a long time, it was meant to have a climactic feel before a return to basics with something different. Add the fact that Gen 4 was so successful, and he probably felt pressure to make something just as big as Gen 1.
It was never really a reset though. Unlike the West (or really, it mostly seems to be America), Japan doesn't cling on to Gen 1's Pokemania as much because it never died out there. The idea of the series being "rebooted", or fear that old Pokemon were being replaced, probably never crossed their mind.

a pokemon being unevolved or not has no impact on the executive writing decisions. if anything, the writers often use it as writing device such as "can this unevolved pokemon defeat its final evolutionary stage through sheer effort and willpower???"
a magikarp could beat a dragonite if the writers so desired, so stop acting like a pokemon has to be evolved to be good. the anime doesn't need to follow game logic to the dot.

no, it doesn't. the pokemon anime IS a commercial for the games, but if the anime followed most game logic, then the anime would be even more drab and predictable than it already is. you're watching the anime to be entertained (hardly), so if anything a magikarp giving dragonite a run for its money would be a more interesting watch then dragonite knocking the magikarp out in one hit. as long as it contextually makes sense, sweeping accuracy under the rug is ok. base stats, levels, none of that shit matters and nobody truly cares. you can pretend to, but you really don't.
