Thinking about picking this up given I'm out for two weeks because of shut down and I've always had an interest in this series but never played it. Hearing mixed things, like DX is worse than the original and some saying it's better.
Anonymous
Could someone please help me? I severely underestimated Howling Forest.
Anonymous
>>43040831 Only Nostalgiafags think DX is worse than the original. The only TWO major things they did are removing A-attack and streamlined a bunch of things that made the original game felt clunky to play. Admittedly, some conveniences made the game a bit too easy, but I'd like to believe that they balanced a lot of things in this based on what they added in this game, like certain bosses now being multi-tiered thanks to Mega Evo.
You couldn't have picked a better day to get this game. So far, everyone else are playing it and there's a lot of people online that needed rescuing.

- meet the mon (common/typical)
- escort
- delivery
- find item
All of these are in a bulletin boards and you get to choose which one you should do.
Password/internet has you rescue actual Switch users who have the same game. You either get the password you see in their Twitter, Discord or 4chan, try rescuing them in the specified floor, then send back the corresponding password for them to use. If you have the NSO however, you can just pick whichever fellow RTDX players in the internet BBS needs rescuing.

>>43041919 The Rare Quality was Small Stomach, I picked Swalot because it was the only pokémon I had with it but it turns out that Wring Out + Body Slam is pretty good, also Stockpiling once at the start of every floor plus being overleveled made me pretty bulky.
The strat is very slow, basically I would grind in every lower floor till the timeout wind came up to gather as much as exp possible, if you find two Perfect Apples you don't have to worry about food anymore because eating anything will put your belly on 200, this lets you scout entire floors for items.
The early mid-game is pretty scary because Swalot is pretty crappy since it can only do real damage through Wring Out + Body Slam till level 37 where it learns Sludge Bomb which is not even that good and has low PP. You're relying while you pass turns to save PP on the sheer numbers of your recruits, which can turn against you by dying against stuff like Ampharos which is already weirdly overpowered by itself in the floors you find it in.
1/2
Anonymous
>>43042114 Once I got to lv 29 around floor 30 I used the 6 Joy Seeds I found all in one go and started feeling better about not dying, specially thanks to the Stockpile boost, still some pokémon were pretty scary to deal with because they wouldn't die in one/two hits so their damage would add up while you waste PP, for example Lairon or Solrock.
The only useful held item I found was early game and it was the Detect Band, which raises evasivion, I don't know how much but I dodged so many hits and that was extremely good in the long run, specially since I found like 5 or so Oran Berries in the entire run.
Overall I still felt relatively safe, specially past floor 80 where I didn't feel the need to scout floors anymore and just ran towards the stairs. I also always had an inv full of Orbs to deal with awakened enemies or monster houses and ended the run with 5 Tiny Reviver Seeds and 2 Reiver Seeds in my inventory. The only real problem was PP but luckily I kept finding that one Elixir every X floors that gave me the tiny push I needed.
So tl;dr small stomach gives you an infinite belly and lets you pickup other useful items that you shouldn't be afraid to use because you will find more later on.

I feel like an idiot. I just got a shiny Noctowl (first shiny I've seen since getting a Friend Bow) and I actually got him on the first try. I tried to show my mom because she likes Pokemon and knows about shinies and a regular Noctowl shows up. Tried to show her to color difference before killing the regular Noctowl, but my killing blow fucking missed and Noctowl nuked my shiny with Uproar. I realized too late that I had used up all my reviver seeds earlier so I just lost my shiny 2 min after getting him. Lesson learned to triple check my items before heading into a dungeon I guess. The game's now taunting me by throwing 50 regular Noctowl at me every floor.

>>43045682 It doesn't feel like its actually more box space. The same time they made the box bigger, they also made belly reduce 30% faster, they also added 1 drop in belly for for pushing a teammate (as opposed to swapping with them by holding b), and they took the basic attack away making it so you use moves more, and then they also made it so that seeds, berries, and vitamins no longer restore 5% of your max belly.
These changes make it so you need to carry more apples and pp items so the combinations of "I have more box space, but I need to carry more items" means there's a net change of effective box space closer to 0. I really think that's a shame because there's a lot of niche use orbs and seeds that would be fun to strategize around but I just don't have the box space to bring those items with me.

My main 3rd team member ended up being Linoone. Not what I had originally planned but with Pin Missile and Fury Attack, he's pretty nifty. His ability also makes sure his multi hits always land.
