I don't understand their reasoning for banning the ability rather than Dugtrio

But there are no other half-decent pokemon with it. Diglett and Trapinch are shitmons. We've also gone 6 generations without any other mons getting the ability, so the fear of some new mon getting it and being broken with it seems silly.

Because in gen 7 people actually used Trapinch and Diglett to prove how retarded Arena Trap was. There ended up being very little difference because trapping was still as effective.

You can use it on an offensive team to trap and kill the most threatening wall, or you can use it on a stall team to trap and kill the most threatening wallbreaker.
Or if you're running any other kind of team, you can use it to trap and kill any other kind of threat.
