Galar should be on its own. For better or worse, it has a very different design philosophy to any other gen and GameFreak have said as such.

Kanto & Johto has simple designs with mostly one solid color, as well as angry pointy eyes and black dotted cute eyes

Hoenn & Sinnoh focused on adding more contrasting color and additions on them such as Camerupt's rings or Garchomp's spikes, also they still tried to build on the designs from gens 1 & 2

Sinnoh should probably be grouped with Unova, not Hoenn. It was the beginning of a lot of the things we shit on Unova for, like starters with overly artificial elements/clothing-like patterns and themes, overdesign and weirdo shit in general, abberation legendaries and so on. Hoenn feels like kind of its own thing to me, definitely distinct from Gen 1/2 but not at all like 4/5 either.

I feel like I get a lot more of the same vibes from the Sinnoh and Unova dexes than I do the Hoenn dex compared to either, it's brighter colored and more tropical but has a lot of standout designs that aren't weirdly "engineered" or overly unnatural in appearance.

Yeah Hoenn had a lot of natural stuff like Torkoal, Tropius, Absol, Mightyena, Ludicolo, Shiftry, Camerupt, Wailord, Seviper, Zangoose, Crawdaunt, Cacturne, etc.
