You’re cherrypicking, but even then you can still see extra content on the route via the optional route through the dark grass. The main problem with routes in Alola and Galar isn’t really that the main paths are often linear, but that there’s very little meat to them besides that.

It's Johto and Sinnoh who are bros. It was the first region to have links to Sinnoh, the remakes were in the same generation and Arceus could create another Sinnoh legendary in HGSS. Not to mention the Sinjoh ruins were built by people both from Sinnoh and Johto.

HGSS is both Gen 2 and 4 similar to how all of the Kanto remakes are both Gen 1 and the they were made in. Nevertheless, Johto is intrinsically strongly linked to the first 4 generations. Gen 1 and 2 are obvious. Brendan and May come from Johto and you could get the Johto starters and a lot of Johto Pokémon in Coliseum and XD.
