I like how their simple and similar designs contrasts with the creation trio being so overdesigned and different. It somehow fits with the lake trio being spirit while the creation trio are matter.
I believe there is more far tought put into the Sinnoh legendaries than it is inmediatly apparent. The lake trio was deemed important enough to change their names according to the language to keep the themes of fairies and pronouns.
