I understand how it feels to score a blow over a Pokégirl that MIGHT be black or black-coded and depicting a character as black is hard when one has to try doing it in a timeline that doesn't reflect our own and we have to avoid copyright issues (because let's face it, culturally speaking, namedropping brands, athletes and labels is an easier tell than character design alone). I get what it feels like to want a character of color people can take seriously and doesn't look clownish or freakish.
However, I gotta say this right now.
