The game was actually balanced as long you didn't use the rare candies from raids.

They're there for postgame team building, and the raids themselves give no exp, so you can have fun raiding all you want during the story instad of being forced to wait without ending up with retarded amounts of exp. It's a good compromise.

Absolutely this, I sat raiding for about 4 solid days total during my playthrough, then at the end was able to pick up from where I left off with my team, due to not being a spastic giving them EXP candies"because they were there".

No it wasn't, I was overleveled with almost my whole team before I even got to the Wild Area, if anything the Wild Area actually helped because I skipped it and so there was a level jump, but I still ended up one-shotting everything with my extremely overleveled starter. It was like XY but worse somehow.

I honestly found Sword/Shield harder than previous generations. I ended up having to go back and train for the Bea fight because I got my ass handed to me for bringing a bunch of ghosts the first time. I had no fucking clue that every trainers pokemon in that gym had Brutal Swing.
