Over the course of the anime:
Misty started as a hothead, maturing and becoming nurturing and proving herself an apt trainer.
May is indecisive, isn't passionate about Pokemon, and more or less starts her journey because it's what everyone does at age 10. She settles on becoming a coordinator, becomes more confident, and proves herself as a coordinator and trainer.
Dawn is cocky because of her mother's status, she loses some contests and realizes she has to work on herself and her Pokemon, becoming a formidable trainer and top notch coordinator.
I didn't watch BW so I don't know what Iris did. Mallow and Lana didn't seem to receive much development, but Lillie started the series scared of Pokemon and as a meek bitch. She ends up overcoming her fears and standing up to her mother.
Now please explain Serena's character development and arc providing examples. Also feel free to explain how May, Dawn, or Lillie's character progression pales in comparison to whatever feeble "development" you manage to pull out of your ass for Serena.
