>>43103562> vast majority of games are low quality, you just don't know.i know for a fact that until gaming became mainstream media, games used to only sell well if they were good and well designed. as games became more popular, people started attaching to corporations and brands. the quality of games declined because the developers realized that they could get away with it. it was no longer quality that sold, but advertisements, merchandise, brands, etc.
> this is especially visible in pokemon. when ruby and sapphire were about to release, Masuda was genuinely worried the games wouldn't sell well because the transfer feature was impossible to implement. so, they tried their best to add whatever content they could to make the game as successful as possible. ruby and sapphire sold well because masuda tried to put in as much content as possible.
this continues into the ds era, where more and more features and quality content were added to make pokemon games a truly golden experience. after gen5, pokemon was an incredibly strong franchise. they knew that pokemon was a household name. they knew from observing the successes of other, less soulful games that they survived due to brand loyalty. so, they did the reasonable thing for the financial side of the company, and piggybacked off of brand loyalty and muh nostalgia. this is why everything 3ds era is bad and progressively gets worse.
