The only reason this battle is better is because there were no gimmicks to hold it down. SM battles were forced to show off Z-Moves and XY started to blow when it became the Ash-Greninja & Mega show.

The battles will start to suck once Dynamax takes center stage. The Ash-Leon battle was a piece of shit sumo wrestling match

Lance vs Leon was a lot more fun when they weren't dynamaxed, Gyrados using Dragon Dance and then circling around Charizard while using an ice fang flurry was way better than two big pokemon launching attacks

The battle you posted was CGI too. The backgrounds are a texture over a 3D mesh and Night Daze was also a 3D effect.

What made Ashgren vs. MScep good was Sceptile had a type advantage and a x4 resistance to water. Those stakes made the battle more tense.

Ashgren vs Mzard was infuriating for the same reason, there was no internal logic to why Gren should have lost

That's the point I'm trying to make. Speedlines can work if done properly, which >>43105590 didn't. It still uses CGI but somehow the animation doesn't feel impactful as compared to >>43105930 either.
