I'm realising this afternoon that I have no idea what role Piers and Marnie would have in this universe, and it'd be neat to work it out, but the easy path is to say Piers doesn't have the money/motive to fly to not-Kanto where everything's set. If I wanted consistency Piers would be a majuu, and his paleness/colourscheme matches SuMo Grimsley who's a vampire (that can get by on alcohol and mana instead of human blood, which he can't consume while stuck in a special choker; literally chokes him), so something similar in nature. But would that make Marnie a majuu, or do I break their blood relation and make her his handler that he's overprotective of? The one person who took him in when he's already this old and undesired. Hmm.
Since this is weeb in many areas maybe make him a ningyou, have Western mermaid song in there, but the Japanese spooky maneater feel with cursed immortal flesh. Make it that normally it's female sea people who have music careers, not battles, and Piers is acting like a jack of all trades that doesn't fit popular convention. He's doing everything in his power, even if the internet just jokes 'first to bite him never loses' and 'how many centuries til he gives up'. Also tension because what if he did bite someone and have a taste for humans, what if that's why he eats so little? (But even if that's the case he's restraining himself without magical items, he's really intricate in vocal casting, and he works so hard!)See how easily I go off the rails, goddamn.
