Shittiest dex ever, even worse than Johto
Full of cross gen evos and preevos, copies of previous pokemon and just ugly all around. They didn't even try to be original or unique with this one.

14 years later and not counting the three dragons i still don't understand why GF felt this was necessary

this is one thing the newest gens have over the old ones. they don't fluff the shit out of the bottom of the dex with useless garbage "legendaries"

alola had the ultra bests, but while sorely underused they were their own new thing

I'm a sinnohfag, but sinnoh's pokedex is non-offensive,boring and forgettable. Gen 3,5,7 are all the polar opposites of this, which why those gen's designs are talked about much more like how jarring the designs are. Gen 2 and Gen 6's pokedex are in the same situation as Gen 4's pokedex.

Yeah the funny thing is, the odd numbered gens seem to have more debate and discussion on their designs
1,3,5,7 have the biggest hits and the lowest misses.
2,4,6,8 are moreso boring and inoffensive

I disagree on 7 and 8. I think Gen 7 really only has a few misses(Incineroar and the ugly rainbow fish come to mind) where as I think 8 has more misses than any gen since 5.

gen 8 was a better gen for new pokemon than gen 7. The only new pokemon I seriously like from gen 7 are golisopod and to a lesser extent araquanid. meanwhile, gen 8 on the other hand has hatenna, falinks, the fossils, grimmsnarl, drednaw, and centiskorch

Odd number gens usually changes the formula, freshes up series for good or for worse, has a lot of features that seem to disappear after it's debut generation. Even number gens have much-needed casualization changes and often adds a lot of new features that have stayed since it's debut and became a staple.

3- Overhauled battle system
5- Soft reboot with only new Pokemon

I actually like Eiscue and the fossils, but I get what you mean. Shit like Skwovet is offensively bad, but most of the gen falls into "this isn't great but I'm not going to remember it exists" territory. Gen 5 at least had a lot of designs, so it was more likely there'd be something good, and the low points didn't drag the whole generation down as much.

Gamefreak has this very weird pattern of making odd gens super gutsy and ambitious and then backtracks on even gens by tweakin and refining the changes done by the odd gen. before it, i'm betting gen 9 will innovate something crazy or shift the series into something else.

Masuda actualy spoke about that in a SwSh interview. He said that he feels like every console should start with a more traditional pokemon experience, and after they get that "traditional game" out of the way, they find themselves feeling free to try different things in the other games of the console, and said that we can expect the next Switch game to be akin to SM and BW.

Retard, gen 4 was all about evolution, Prof. Rowan even states that's what he studies in and all the ways pokemon evolve, hence why most the sex are pre/evos and why so many of them have different ways of evolving, how do so many of you miss that?
