Do you guys play romhacks on you pc, or do you play an emulator on your phone? I want a nice portable option, I always lose interest in Pokemon if it isn't portable.

I love Gen 1 and 2 hacks
Red++, Grape, Red and Blue Deluxe, Brown, Roaming Red, Prism, Polished Crystal, Crystal Clear, and Pyrite Crystal are all pretty good.

Crystal Clear is basically Crystal with no story or roadblocks. It has:

HOWEVER
>no roadblocks or story means there is nothing to do besides getting gym badges, grinding gym rematches, and chasing more gym badges
>they randomized the palettes of every unimportant NPC, they're more darkskin palettes than paleskin palettes so the region looks like Africa now
>the dev team put their OCs in the game, the original Elite Four and the Champion were replaced were OCs, it's very cringe
>a lot these features were made possible by borrowing from other open-source projects, especially Pokemon Prism, but CC is closed-source. Kind of a dick move by Shockslayer.

Quartz is a must. Not because of its quality (it's really bad), but because of its historical value. Other than that, I had lots of fun with Moemon and Touhoumon 1.5 (1.8 has nicer aesthetics, but none of these hacks have an original and cringy story, unlike the 1.5 hacks).
