Give it to me straight, /vp/. I don't have an incredible amount of nostalgia for RBY because I didn't play them as a kid even though I was born at a good age to start them, I didn't have a gameboy until the advance. I did like fire red which I played for the first time this year. Will I enjoy lets go pikachu if I just go in with an open mind?

My ranking of the series goes by gen:
3>4>2>5>6 (haven't finished 7 and haven't played 1 or 8)

I have nostalgia for RBY, and I enjoyed Let's Go for giving Kanto a fresh coat of paint and making it look good on Switch. It lacks most modern pokemon game features so I don't consider it worth playing if what you like is battles and catching pokemon. If you just want to visit Kanto and interact with NPCs then it would be okay, but other than that it is not a $60 game worth anyone's time.

Thanks. I think it looks really nice and I will just try to enjoy the comfy aspect. Battling is good fun, but honestly the AI still isn't up to snuff even in the last game I've played SM, although it has gotten better. My favorite game, emerald, has such dogshit AI but I enjoy it anyway. Maybe a nuzlocke would make the actual battles more engaging.

I think the AI is going to disappoint either way. I haven't had a challenging battle against an NPC since White 2's post-game, although I guess 7's battle tree isn't too terrible

I didnt buy it because it was shilled so much and I noticed a lot of weird animations and possible bugs. Doesnt have much post game either.

they genuinely designed it like an edutainment game for five year olds. nothing can beat your unstoppable god starter with a billion unique super duper instant kill moves and jacked stats, there's nothing to do except go through the laughable story and the battle system is actually simpler than gen 2 for some fucked up reason, and with less pokémon

Pros:

>It’s grindy, because you can’t level up through wild battles only catching over and over again
>Completely removed all extra content from FRLG
>No game corner at all, Safari Zone replaced with a GO Transfer mechanic
>AI is braindead for the most part, and even the Master Trainers can be completely cheesed with toxic strategies
>No way to get hidden abilities, only the original 3 Pokeballs are in

From what I've gathered the only people who've thoroughly enjoyed it are e-girls who prefer the non-gameplay aspects of pokemon, such as this game's version of amie, customisation, and the cartoony aesthetics. In terms of mechanics, it's a weird mix between some introduced between 1 and 6, the physical/special split exists, but held items and abilities don't, and you can mega evolve as well.... not that it matters, the gameplay is not complex by any means, your ultra-buffed starter can sweep the game with little to no challenge. Yes, this game is easier than easy in a series where every game is easy.
A lot of the neat additions from gen 3's FireRed/Leaf Green (The Sevii Island quest, Gen 3 movesets, updated postgame E4, Johto pokemon) are gone though, and replaced with a really boring repetitive "quest" that I guarantee is not worth your time.

TL;DR, if you're looking for a shallow game that barely qualifies on the aesthetic front, go for it. But if you're looking for the enjoyable gameplay of the gen 3 era, you won't find it here.

Thank you for all your honest assessments anons. I played it for about 20 minutes and realized either its fucking boring or I'm burned out on playing pokemon for now. To be fair I did just pull a 70 hour file on fire red and 50 hours on emerald within the last month and a half.

I got LGE as a gift, and it was a comfy game with the partner and followers but got kind of boring after a while and I didn't finish it, and wouldn't pay full price for it. I always hoped the first 3D Kanto game would be a total re-work of the region and not a literal clone of Yellow with 3D layered on top.

I don't even think virtual petfags like me thoroughly enjoyed it either, I loved the partner and especially the ability to customize it but they locked Amie to one fucking mon and you couldn't even enjoy the followers fully with only the Kanto dex available.

I can see these criticisms, yeah. I wish they actually gave a crap about remakes after HGSS. While they added cool features in ORAS, they didn't even base it off the superior emerald. With this game it seems like they just wanted a turn your brain COMPLETELY off pokemon experience for literal mouthbreathing retarded children. And it worked, Lets Go sold 12 million copies.

It's fun if you get some hacks to lower the experience yield. I played through it with 60% exp gain and was actually underleveled for most of the game.
