I think the biggest problem is the mismatched styles, you have fairly flat character textures with environments ranging from a semi-realistic water texture to trees, rocks, and buildings with bright saturated colors with a decent amount of details to land and props with lower polygon counts and flat n64 mag-mapped textures even up close. If they picked one and stuck with it the games would look 5x better no matter which style they chose just because they'd look like a consistent world rather than a team of artists slapped assets together with no communication between them the entire time.
