>>43125566mewtwo's backstory with Dr. Fuji's daughter isn't even present in either iterations of the first movie. the sinnoh trilogy is very well written; the action is great, but only there when necessary. the stakes are high, the cascade of events tying the movies together make watching the trilogy in a binge very ssatisfying. character performances were top notch.
Lucario and the mystery of mew was singlehandedly the greatest pokemon movie ever released. the feeling of a grand adventure is kept throughout the movie, and the war that sir Aaron tried to stop matches with the canon off the X/Y/Z war. there is mystery, action, adventure, character development, drama, and so much more in this film.
in mewtwo stries back, ash changes not a single bit. nothing about his morals are put into challenge, and he never once has to reconsider what he believes in and why.
as for the Ho-Oh movie, that movie was pretty mediocre. being a celebration of an anime that wasn't even all that good isn't the best idea, especially when you're going to replace the characters. now, I'm not going to play the "MUH BROCK! MUH MISTY!" because I have nothing wrong with replacing them with different characters, as long as those characters are well-written and serve a purpose in the story other than "new guy is discount brock! have a backstory and nothing else! hey, did you know cynthia had a daughter? this is important because it isn't!" the mish-mash of anime moments feels satisfying as an homage to the anime, but it doesn't flow well for the pacing of a high quality high budget movie. it would make a much better special.
lastly there's cross. cross is a good character until the end, where his arc is just tossed aside. very disappointing.
char limit, will cont.
