Besides, they chose that character for a reason, if they had wanted to portray masculinity and use that as sole inspiration, they would've based it off a character that was, you guessed it, male. There's a lot of males they could've used for inspiration when it comes to french revolution icons, and yet they chose a female character who dressed and acted like a man, but wasn't actually one. It's not the same and you have to see there's intention behind the motives, there's reason.
