>>43133128But they ARE supposed to be mindless monsters. The whole point of the franchise is to catch, trade and collect these creatures for your own gain. Giving them a theme or fixed personality not only breaks what little immersion there is, like am I supposed to believe ALL Sobbles naturally evolve into suave sniper agents? Before you could assume you had a shy Typhlosion, a bashful Blaziken, a hot headed Torterra, because they're creatures with an open design, whereas here you just have to accept that your starter is this specific thing and that's it. Not to mention, going back to my previous post, that these are supposed to be wild creatures you literally use, so having them become more and more humanoid each gen, more and more sentient is just incredibly weird. Imagine if your dog suddenly stood on two legs and waited for you at the kitchen with a glass of wine. It'd still be your dog, you'd still walk it on a leash, but why would it accept that if it was as sentient as a human? It becomes weird, what, it gets turned on or something?
Having these humanoid themed starters is counterproductive in every conceivable way, and we really do need to go back to literal monsters.
