I've played through Rescue Team and Explorers. But are any of the other mystery dungeon games decent?
Do any of them involve your recruits at all or are they just voiceless backup like usual?

Most of that comes from the story's approach which in the first half is more of a slice of life kind of thing. Some people think its too long, others love that its there before you suddenly get flinged into the serious part too quickly like the others. You can only really make that call yourself. The recruitment system is also vastly different and some people are mixed on that as well but I don't see how anyone would think the classic one would work in a game with over 800 pokemon. However the gameplay of Super, and subsequently the Rescue Team remake since it has its QoL changes and added more are considered the best gameplay wise. There's also a bigger difficulty bump in Super as well.

Yeah that sounds like the kind of stuff trivial stuff people'd complain about. Sounds alright to me though, especially the difficulty bump. Actually gives you a reason to prepare I'd imagine.

not him but i wouldn't say the plot jump is a trivial thing...personally for me i was not into the first half of the game at fucking all. i did enjoy the shit out of super but that first half really prevents me from replaying it.

I did forget about this, but it only really matters when the difference in level between yourself and other pokemon is vastly different, and I think people overlook that fact. Like that one mission around the beginning of the game with you know who. Of course you won't get access to something like that regularly anytime you wanted when its that early. But also considering the fact that this anon likes the prospect of the difficulty bump I don't think it'll bother him either.
