Tired of ignorant smogoniggers calling out vgc for having shit team diversity, because one braindead autist thinks its a good idea to post "fanfic" in every smogon thread. I'm going to clear this shit up right now, and explain why VGC team diversity is nowhere near as bad as meme images like pic related shows.

>VGC is bring 6 pick 4
Every team is 6 pokemon, and you choose 4, leading to every team having a maximum of 15 sets of 4 mons to bring. Not every combination will be used or viable, but overall a single team can be deployed in many different ways.
Because of 6 pick 4, changing a single mon changes all combinations with that mon. Meanwhile in 6v6 singles, changing one mon makes 1 new team.

>VGC teams are for a whole tourney instead of a single match/series
For VGC, you are generally forced to use the same team throughout the tournament (swiss and playoffs). This rewards a solid meta read and a strong/consistent team with a good matchup spread instead of cheese strats and CTing.
In singles tourneys like SPL where you can choose a new team any week, a lot of players are trying to CT. If their team is bad in general but good against what their opponent brings that week then there is no consequences. So there will be more teams.
The VGC competitive teambuilding experience replicates ladder better than singles, because its about bringing what has a good matchup spread against the metagame will be rather than something that will just BTFO what you think the other guy will bring.

>VGC top placement players have to make it through Swiss
Top VGC teams will often be similar, because these teams are the ones that perform well in swiss. Because the tournament's meta will shape up a certain way, people who have the best answers will make it past swiss. Thus, it makes sense that the top teams will all share similar characteristics. The actual diversity on a tournament wide scale is much higher.
