I used one in HG, got it from the secret egg in Violet City but honestly Slugma was trash for most of the game til it evolved really late. There's no reason to use it in Johto at all

Buff Magma Armor so that instead of just preventing it from being frozen, the Pokemon is also completely immune to Water and Ice attacks.

Now its dex entry about water vaporizing on contact is reflected in actual gameplay.

What if it was something like Water Absorb + Mist?
So when it's hit by a water move it vaporises it and releases 'mist', resetting all stat changes on the field
Makes sense lore-wise and give it some kinda gimmick that could at least have some niche use

Magcargo needs stat total similar to Muk and Weezing. Maybe make a new ability that makes Water moves have no effect. Water is overpowered as hell so why not?

this should be able to work but the only way hes ever getting out of untiered is a ridiculous evolution giving him speed and not sacrificing anything (maybe attack). Coalossal just seems like a huge middle finger to my poor boy. I guess a small buff could be to it's abyssal hp +30 or 40 even but that wont change much if you really want to Desolate Land would be rad kinda like how they gave the terrain abilities to Indeedee and Pincurshion two pokemon that wouldn't be very good without their abilities

Its niche role, if it has one, is basically as a hard mode option for people complaining the games are too easy, but Pokemon with low Speed are just really annoying to use in-game.

Johto had a lot of shitmons, and most of them have gotten buffs over the years. Magcargo is one of the ones who've been left on the wayside across the gens, and it's way too late to save it. Good candidate for a regional forme + evolution, if nothing else, but I hate that gimmick.

Most Pokemon are at least meant to be solid creatures though, their models just look ugly
For anything meant to be non-solid or uses shadows in its design (like tangela, which is now clearly just a black ball with eyes surrounded by vines) got fucked over extra hard

Kill yourself for saying "MUH ITS TOO LATE TO BUFF THIS MONNNN". Why the fuck is it too late? Other than Game Freak's autism, what's stopping them from buffing Magcargo and other Pokemon w/o giving them an evolution/mega/regional form/other bullshit. Why are we not allowed to buff the base Pokemon? Instead, we have to buff them indirectly by giving them a new form, which is pure autism at its finest
Fuck, this game's idea of balance pisses me dick off
