There's no way it can save this whole game can it? Is there any chance it can bring enough content to the game to make the base game not feel so empty and pointless?

The DLC will feature exactly one story quest each and the wild areas they have will be just as barren and empty as the one in the base game. You can probably blow through each in an hour or less.
