When you got a TM, you couldn’t find out what it actually did unless you taught it to a Pokémon.
Can’t check accuracy of moves at all.
Can’t check move you’re teaching a Pokémon by level up.
Have to manually switch boxes at a PC before it fills up otherwise oops you can’t catch shit.
Solid influx of nothing but shitmons for several gyms.
No move relearner without stadium 2.
Can only save 10 numbers in poke gear and rematches are literally level 15 rattatas and pidgeys.
This applies to gen 3 somewhat as well, but STAB is a privilege and some learn sets are actual garbage 100%.
Despite all this, and almost due to it in some ways, Johto (GSC) is the most soulful Pokémon experience and truly a joy to just play. I love it.
