Dark and Fighting are the two boringest types though. I'd rather do Flying/Ground/Electric and make sure their secondary types all have noghting to do with each other.

the only reason that theres a rock paper scissors dynamic to starters is because the rival in the first game was the champion of that game
if the story is more about legendaries and villainous team then they could do so much more with starters
like they could do anything, any types, any number of choices

This is a very good point, as early as Gen three we've had non-rival champions and they've still stuck with the boring fire/water/grass trio for starters. I always wanted a game where you pick a trainer class and start with types associated, like a hiker getting a rock type from the start
