but i see it as a weird meta thing more than optimal play. they assume their opponent is going to dynamax early and they dynamax early so it basically cancels out their opponent's momentum. then that happens enough that everyone thinks early dynamax is the "right way" to play.
the mechanic is very weird. people think big monster = go on rampage but it gives a much bigger buff to defense than offense, making it more useful reactively than actively.
if both players dynamax immediately, they're put on an even playing field and then they basically just play normal pokémon. i don't think that'll last, though. we'll have to wait and see
