The castle is pretty creepy. It's supposed to be some ancient castle that was underground the Pokemon league this whole time. Looks demonic the way it just comes out of the ground like that fully intact and surrounds you.

This might sound odd but for me the biggest wtf moment was finding the snowy part of Mt coronet on my first playthrough of platinum. When I was younger pokemon was more about catching and training every pokemon I came across and checking it's stats and movepool to learn about how that mon played out in battle so I could compete with my friends at school, so i never acknowledged story elements and just treated it as a sandbox. Because of this I got stuck at the point after the cyrus battle in Veilstone for an actual year and a half, and had completely exhausted every single nook and cranny of the region, every hidden dungeon, item and trainer, I had nothing else to do. At this point I thought the black out was time based so I checked daily to see if it was gone. So you can imagine my shock when I was just wondering around Mt.Coronet when I accidentally stumbled upon a part of the cave that I had thought I already explored only for looker to stop me and to exit into a snowy mountain area. To this day, nothing is as earth shatteringly, balls to the wall jaw dropping for me as that one time I uncovered the rest of the fucking game after a year and a half, like 700 hours of playtime, of being stuck. Gen 4 wasn't even my first but I nearly pissed myself in excitement and the fact that it was the genuine climax of the game with such an intense theme really topped it off. I'm so mad that my knowledge of the internet these days will keep me from ever truly feeling DISCOVERY in these games

BW1's entire endgame was fantastic.

>Route 10, with Bianca and Cheren very concerned about Team Plasma, and that music

>then the castle, a plot twist like this had never been done in a Pokemon game

GSC's Kanto and Red would have been this, but I had the strategy guide as a kid. Even looking through it was a pretty big shock though, since nobody called the region Kanto back then in the west.

Gen II remakes were a real blessing, I didn't even know someone who played a Pokemon game before Gen III and I was in my early tens so I was considering dropping the franchise (mostly after the horrible change of VA in LA's dub and the horrible Gen IV Pokedex), but that Lugia made me change my mind
