Do you guys like Pokemon at all? I've been browsing this board for the past week and it seems like almost everyone on this board hates every Pokemon game past gen 4 or 5. I played XY and SM and thought they were fun games and I'm planning on buying SWSH once I have a Switch. Am I just a retard?

Nah, I loved pokémon growing up and it was a huge part of my younger years. The problem is how TPC continually mishandles something that so many people are really invested in. Going from decent RPGs to ones that only make it on brand recognition alone, to refusing to grow with their audience, to not having put out an objectively good game with the pokémon name on it in years. I think a majority of people here do love pokémon, just not what it has become

There are parts I love and parts I hate. The games for the most part are good.
They can range from being amazing(Colo&GoD) to being terrible with no interest in a second playthrough(DPPt). But I think as a whole, the franchise is fine, the Anime holds it back from having a bigger appeal, and therefore the company plays everything very safe by doing the same thing over and over with small gimmicks added every once in a while (where the games are concerned). 70% of me likes pokemon 20% of me is indifferent 10%hates that I still keep up with it.

TL;DR: I like pokemon fine, I just don't love it like I used to.

everyone has a couple generations they don't like. for me, an intellectual, those are gens 6 and 8. overall i think pokémon is good but unambitious.
the actual problem with /vp/, and most of fourth channel, is that bitching gets way more replies than positivity. you could make the exact same thread about a game, replace "love" with "hate" and triple the number of replies

gen 8 is ok. gen 6 and 7 were absolute trash, fucking hated everything 3ds looked awful and ran awful. The animes were bad too. But anyways gen 1 to 5 were ok too.

Tourist passing through here. I'd say as far back as gen 3 there started to be serious signs that the franchise was being mismanaged. Unfortunately, people were not grown up enough to see those signs yet. It wasn't until maybe gen four or five where it began to "click" that things were just retarded. For me it was gen 4, a lot of other people it was gen 5. By gen 6 very few older fans were left and only gen 3 or gen 4 babbys were remaining. I would say the majority of what is left of Pokemon's fanbase nowadays (that is, people who actually purchase stuff) were too young to remember gen 1, 2 and may not even remember gen 3.

I still regularly play Pokemon Showdown and replay Emerald/Platinum/SS/White/White 2 every year
