I would like to see the trainers to become sort of missions in and of themselves. Make each one a mini gym leader (if they were actually serious of becoming pokemon trainers and challenging fighters, there's no excuse for them not to have teams of 4+, and have 3 worms.) Each trainer would be completely optional, where you have to approach them and talk to them to accept the fight, it would give them a difficulty rating, and some would be to hard to fight when you first encounter them unless you are really good. They would actually give good rewards instead of just money, they could use fun gimmicks/strategies like rain teams, uturn teams, baton pass teams, etc. This would actually make fighting trainers fun, instead of just a 45 second annoyance where you turn off your brain
