What's your opinion of "canon" habitats for pokemon as presented in the games? I found it interesting that both FRLG and PMD both pushed this idea only for it to be dropped by later games. I always find myself subconsciously sorting my PC into various habitats.

Makes sense conceptually, but not so much in game mechanics where Pokemon get placed all over.
Plus you have strange things like Jynx being Urban despite finding them in icy caves instead of cities.

I love it. I think FRLG has one of the best Pokedex in the series. Kinda shitty that they dropped most of the functions the Pokedex used to have.

I also used to order my boxes by habitat when I was younger but now I don't really care

I noticed this as far back as RSE, when I surfed in a landlocked pond and found wild Tentacool. Then Sharpedo was found in rivers in XY (river sharks are a thing and Carvanha live in rivers so this one isn’t too bad).

SM kinda started pushing it further with the Brooklet Hill area having both freshwater frogs and saltwater fish in the same body of water... but it was still excusable since it’s where the river meets the ocean.

Then SWSH went full retard and said “fuck it, mantas and starfish in a lake.”

The fish fighting on air is not immersion breaking because it is necessary in order for the gameplay to function. Fish in incorrect spots is immersion breaking

RSE had clear visual difference between freshwater and saltwater
I dont remember ever finding Tentacool and light blue water

This was my favourite thing too.

I really hope one day we'll have a large enough game to have overworld pokemon reacting and living in their habitats.

Imagine that certain pokemon come out on misty, rainy or sunny weather. Even in different seasons.. it would be amazing.

I'd like it if capturing pokemon was more involved. Instead of running around in grass, you'd have to track pokemon and pay attention to how they act in the wild to get them.

woah, you're right. The river on route 119 is the "Salt Water" tileset, and has wild tentacool, while the route over uses the Freshwater tiles and doesn't have them.

I feel like the Wild Area just shits on this premise. Almost every pokemon that could be found in some unique location in the game could be found in the Wild Area, which just makes the hallways (routes) in galar even less memorable. It also triggers the fuck out of my autism that you can walk two steps from pouring rain, and be in a sandstorm.
