There's notable differences.
>Team Rocket in the original episode only wanted Ditto so they can transform it into a Dratini and present it to Giovanni. In the newer episode, Team Rocket wanted Ditto for its ability to transform into different Pokemon and use it as one of their own Pokemon.
>Duplica was a performer on stage with her Ditto, whereas the Ditto in the newer episode was an actor who was threatened by the director Koreda.
>Team Rocket threatened Duplica's Ditto in the original to get it to transform correctly. In the newer episode, it is the opposite: the Ditto transforms by being encouraged by Team Rocket.

Like, you want to see a goddamn rehash? Compare "Cream of the Croagunk Crop" in Sinnoh to "Crowing the Scalchop King" in Unova. It's literally the same fucking episode, except they crossed Croagunk's name off the script and wrote "Oshawott" in its place. It's not even a case of two episodes coincidentally having the same plot. There are entire scenes that are nearly 1:1 copies of each other.

In the original it was only supposed to be Duplica's Ditto that had that problem. The gag honestly feels cheapened by how they have retconned it to be many Ditto that have that problem, or that all Ditto are incapable of transforming correctly.
