Dawn, May, Hilda, Rosa and Leaf are all pretty popular despite how old their games are, so why was Lyra the outlier?

After the concept art for the female player character from RBG had been updated into Leaf Green with very few changes (gave her a hat and colorful clothes but kept hair & eye color, face etc) having Lyra look so substantially different from Crystal seemed like a massive step down.
Somebody made a comic back then which had Lyra getting the female protag spot for the remakes because she’s literally Peach and Mario’s kid and they pulled strings.
