I grew up with pokemania, I owned trapper keepers full of cards and completed my pokedex in every game up until recently, and watched every episode of the anime until best wishes because that fucking sucked. I used to think that Pokémon didn’t start going downhill until after gen 5, when the series cashed in on normalfaggotry and went 3D, but now that the last several gens have been irredeemable dogshit it’s shattered the illusion. Without rose tinted goggles, looking back on the series I can say with confidence that Pokémon was never actually good. It’s the idea of it that’s good, timeless even. Setting out on your own, meeting and befriending magical creatures and exploring the world, it’s so fucking good. And yet the series never was. At best, Pokémon is a mediocre collectathon with watered down RPG mechanics made to sell toys. What a fucking waste of time.
