Starters are one of the most important aspect of a region because they are the first impression someone gets over the region's Pokemon so let's see:
>Gen 1
>they are all good because they are cool monsters but Charizard clearly stomps the other two in popularity

>again they are all monsters but this time Feralgatr and Typloshion stomp Meganium for beign the first "girl's starters" and not cool at all but it honestly shows that Johto focused on cutemons, even giving you one as a starters, they aren's as famous as their Kanto counterparts
>like it's starters johto is overshadowed by Kanto
>Gen 3
>They are all fantastic and the region is famous for being the only one where choosing one is hard, not only that but Hoenn Pokemon are generally well liked
>Gen 4
>the most forgettable starters of them all, not because they are terrible but because they are just okay, they aren't infuriating but aren't amazing, even choosing which you like more is hard because you don't get a strong opinion from them, some sinnoh Pokemon are also incredibly forgettable like Cherrim and Lumineon or just uninteresting like Abomasnow and Hippodown despite being pretty good concepts

>this was the turning point, this was that one time all starters just sucked except one, but then at the final stage they all did, even today they are disliked and so are good portion of Unovan Pokemon

>despite being fucking shit the starters were amazing, well only two of them as Chespin line fell behind the other two, finally the region did pretty good despite being shit, of course all of it's Pokemon overshadowed by Greninja and Braixen

>the odd case were the starters are fucking shit but the region's Pokemon are amazing, despite beign a shit game, Alola's Pokemon aren't as controversial or disliked as Unovan Pokemon
