Exclusive to late game is fine as long as you can still get it before the 7th or 8th gyms. After that though, there’s zero point in adding something to your team, since you’ll be wanting that victory road exp for your current team in preparation for the E4 level spike.

gen 5 is definitely the biggest offender of this, so many pokemon just aren't worth using cause they evolve and/or are found so late

i thought spheal and walrein were really cool as a kid and i wanted to use them on my team when replaying gen 3, but they can only be found in that cave at the same time that you have access to the 7th gym
technically you can skip the 6th gym because it only gives you access to fly, so you can get the spheal and back track to flannery, but most of the game has already been completed by that point
if pokemon is about anything, its about having an adventure with your pokebuddies, but some of these guys only being accessible after the game is over/mostly over sucks the wind out those sails

Both are pretty bad about it in their own ways. GS has shit distribution while Gen 5 Pokemon have unnecessarily late evolve levels. It's bad enough that things like Deino or Pawinard aren't found until late game, then they take at least a dozen levels of grinding to evolve so they're at least usable.

Ah fuck I don't remember. Most of them were pretty high up since I was rotated a lot and grinded a bit too. Pretty sure I used almost all of the gen 7 mons. Didn't use Oricorio, Comfey, Komala, Turtonator, Drampa, and the legendaries

The aim of one of the challenges in the isle is to use the bear, it naturally does not have that restriction for literally everything else in it. Besides, even if it DID have a 'nothing but the bear IN THE ENTIRE FUCKIGN DLC FUCK YO UGAEMFREAK FUCK FUCK YOU RUINED MY FUCKING LIFE" it still wouldn't be a reason to melt down since it would frankly be a neat idea we haven't done in the franchise yet.
