>>43194348They're giving him heavily marketed Pokémon. I would not be surprised if they gave him an Eevee. Ash's most interesting Pokémon were always the ones that weren't on a checklist. Ones that weren't Pikachu, regional starter(s), regional bird, special snowflake form.
He had a fucking Roggenrolla and Scraggy. Imagine him with a Gigalith and Scrafty. He has KINGLER, a Pokémon that swept an entire League match. Or what about Muk? Did you ever imagine Ash catching a Gligar in Gen IV and evolving it to Gliscor? Or what about Glalie? Or Donphan? Or Primeape? Or Hawlucha? Or Palpitoad?These are really interesting choices.
Seeing them give him a team of Pokémon based on market trends is lame. Bring back fucking Charizard and Greninja while you're at it because it's just a popularity contest at this point. It would have been more interesting if it played out like a pre-Gen V League or the Battle Frontier where he uses his wide variety of Pokémon he caught over the years to tackle specific challenges.
Do you know what one of Ash's greatest moments was? It wasn't Charizard being a beat stick and just brute forcing its way to victory. It was when he chose Heracross with Guts, Sleep Talk, Focus Punch, and Megahorn to take on a Darkrai. He may not have won, but it was was an extremely good idea for a counter and it should have beat it over a random Leaf Blade from a weakened sleeping Sceptile.
