People will be on their 20th playthrough after mastering the mechanics inside and out over 20 years and literally studying the inner code of the games mechanics and will say shit like "Wow this game is so easy, it's so exploitable". Like goddamn, it isn't even an exagggeration, the games are actually pretty fairly balanced when you consider the info your given in game before the actual fight. A single coverage move can fuck up your whole shit since you only knew to prepare for a paticular type, and some battles like the one OP posted come out of no where. Memorizing movesets and teams and even exact stats before a battle is basically cheesing the game, so it isn't fair to complain about it being easy. I played emerald blind recently and was shocked at how many times I lost the first match or 2 of a gym leader because they had things I wasn't prepared for even with a balanced team of 6 mons with plenty of tms and such. was rather fun for a change, running into swablu on route 114 was genuinely exciting because I hadn't memorized encounter tables and was only able to catch what I found naturally during gameplay
