I'm going through Emerald Kaizo right now. It's really fun and extremely challenging but I feel it takes out a lot of breathing room for strategy. Setup moves and stat-reducing moves are all but gone, as are weather moves and 80% of enemy Pokémon have Lum Berry on them so status-inducing moves are also greatly discouraged. While you have no access to that berry and very limited access to Cheri / Chesto, and opponents use a lot of status moves (and some, like Sing and Hypnosis have their accuracy buffed). Some parts feel like a slog because every trainer has at least 3 Pokémon with great coverage, it's tough as shit. I've been seriously thinking of changing battle mode to Shift but that would make it substantially less difficult I think.
