>>43225613I don't believe the roles of a Human-Pokemon relationship can be summarized with a simple pair of titles.
While many have animal-like in intelligence while in the wild, Pokemon have shown potential for intelligence far greater than the animals of our world, when they have lived among humans for a long period. They are certainly more than pets.
While I cannot say for sure, I believe that what a Pokemon wants from a Pokemon-Human relationship is to learn more than what they would be limited to in the wild, to grow stronger than they would be able to in the wild, and perhaps above all else for most Pokemon, to fulfill their innate biological desire to Evolve.
We seldom see fully evolved Pokemon in the wild, besides those alone in their evolutionary tree or who have a reasonably low level requirement for evolution. Evolutionary stones, trade evolution, bond-based evolution, high level evolution; all unavailable to wild Pokemon. The Pokemon approaches the trainer in the wild, not the other way around. They test the Trainer's Pokemon in battle to see if the Trainer is skilled.
A Trainer should be a Pokemon's teacher and their friend; dicipline and encouragement, and should strive to have their pokemon excel. A Pokemon should reciprocate by being the Trainer's companion, assistant, and guardian, and should represent, to the best of their abilities, the value of their Trainer's leadership, training, and care.
