I fail to see the true viability of Silvally. Yes 95 base stats in everything is nice, but it’s move set isn’t anything to brag about. Swords dance and double edge yay but also ouch. Multi attack is a cool concept but why wouldn’t I just use another move with STAB? I want to touch on how dynamax ruins multi attack but I know even speaking of that controversy would open up a war.

I didn’t think dynamax move changed it’s typing when I tried it. I’ll test it on a ghost type den raid tonight but I was sure multi attack dynamax wouldn’t change type for whatever move it turned into.

It doesn't. There's a reason whu its never seen in VGC, and that it's in the lowest tiers in Smogon, with the exception of like two or three forms.

Oh, shit, you're right. Multi-Attack was originally 90 power but now it is 120 this gen. That actually makes it a pretty good STAB move, regardless of it having an effect. No drawback at all to the move.

It's just average across the board. Which obviously means it's neither good or bad. It lacks lacks 2 crucial moves that make Arceus as threatening as he is: Espeed and Recover. Memories are also a bit lackluster considering they don't provide STAB like the Plates do.

You could make an argument between Judgment vs Multi Attack, because one doesn't get neutered by Burn, but eh.

Choice band him and give him Multi-Attack, Iron Head, U-Turn, and Explosion. This is a set I have used for a long time and it works pretty well.

Let me explain to you the main reasons why Silvally is bad and how it failed expectation as a supposedly Arceus clone.

Recover: It's HP and bulk is average at best meaning that it won't be able to take much hits. Why they never thought this thru is beyond me. If you look at Arceus, it's have high bulk and HP and it can still recover. So why not the copy?

Special attacks: What's the point if you're not going to supply it's special attack field? Arceus was good because you can decide what sets it can be, physical, special, or mixed. Silvally is forced to be full on physical, especially knowing that it have no proper way to increase it's special attack. You might as well give it take it's special attack and drop it down to zero is you're not going to be using.

Weak movepool: I don't have to go into much detail about this since, a lot of people know about this and there is much to talk about.

They buffed it because no one used it, just like they did with Genesect and Techno Blast. That extra base power means everything.

Arceus + Flame Plate = Arceus becomes Fire-type AND his Fire-type Judgment or any other Fire moves he uses get a 20% passive boost because of the plate

Silvally + Fire Memory = Silvally and Multi-Attack become Fire-type, but no passive damage boost. It’s just a shittier Arceus in every regard

Work Up isn't a great move in pvp. If it gave +2 instead of +1 on the highest attack stat of the both, then it would be much better.

yeah silvally was shit in gen 7 so they buffed him like crazy
he still lacks a clear niche but he's okay
his type switching shit is straight up inferior to arceus' since memories don't boost damage and it still costs the item slot
i think he was always intended to be a more fair version of arceus but he's actually so bad that a lot of people run eviolite type: null instead

Well then. Maybe with the fact arceus has 120 base in every stat AND having that is a bit too OP. It’s understandable why Arceus is banned and Silvally isn’t. I can’t seem to find a strategy that works around any Silvally form though as it’s a trade off and without baton passing stat boosts he still has nothing. And the lack of an item slot for a memory disc is inhibiting at most.
