I also think the original for National Park is better but the way OP worded it I figured that I had to choose one singular game so I just chose my favorite between the original and the remake.

I refuse to narrow it down to a single game as having the best OST. It's too reductive when there are so many tracks competing with each other across the generations.

call me what you want, but i feel like the midi piano feels really awkward for this track (especially as it's obviously meant to be a flute in the original, or some form of wind instrument that can actually sustain a note), and while the swell into the chorus sounds nice, the instrumentation for the chorus itself is awful, and the outro feels kinda hamfisted to accomodate for the necessity to transition between the two outro styles
this isn't some grudge against hgss as i really like the majority of the remade soundtrack, i just legitimately think national park was unlucky and got butchered while other tracks got improved

OP here! In retrospect I should've made the thread a little less restrictive. It is hard to narrow it down to one game, but I was looking for everyone's opinion on which game had the best tracks on average. I should've worded it less shitty.

Ruined? Not at all, but it's not an improvement, it's a sidegrade at best.
To give credit where it's due, it can be very difficult to improve upon perfection and they did their best. At least they fixed Dragon's Den.

The soundfont in the DS pokemon games are fantastic, so many neat details in them.
