Back when they were still doing it right... Pokemon need solid concepts, not to be gimmickily based on something from the real world place their region is based on. I feel like they’ve been taking it too far with the ‘inspiration’ from real world places since XY.

That's like making a Pokemon based on the Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe in a France region, or a Pokemon based on Big Ben or Stonehenge in an England region.
I'd like to think Gamefreak is better than that.

Because Unova is barely american lets look at the starters: Chinese, Japanese and French. now the legendary Pokemon: Taoism.That's 0-2 for being american alright how about the NPC clothing, that's also Japanese with the school kids wearing jap uniforms, japanese sallarymen. They have a whole Kabuki theater and Village Bridge is a fucking Italian location. There is more non-american themes than american in Unova

It's not obsession it's just understanding that because Unova was their first attempt at "not-japan" they couldn't do it without shoehorning in Japanese concepts because thats all they know. I know people give shit about how Americans never leave their country but a greater percent of Japanese have never left Japan than the percent of Americans who have never left America

honestly I dunno where they got the whole medieval shit with team plasma from, my theory is that they saw the castle in Central Park and thought it was really fuckin cool and decided to base the enemy team's aesthetic on that alone but I dunno
