The human character designs since Gen 5 have been way too exaggerated, like they are characters that wouldn't exist in the real world.

Design sensibilities change with time. 90s were more mature - mainstream was mature Shounen like FOTNS, DBZ, JJBA and YYH. 2010s are all about moeshit so characters are more defined by some quirky trait or design.
