>>43257065it's not necessarily bad in the way harry potter is bad where the setting and plot just don't make any logical sense. there's some of that but it's not the main issue.
it's bad because it's has no purpose and it's unpleasant to engage with
why am i supposed to give a shit? the characters?
as said, the main characters are the purple haired nympho who has no character other than wanting to fuck anything with a pulse, orphan number 1 who is the obnoxious psychic third eye cryptic bullshit kid, orphan number 2 who has a dark past, the villain who is just cyrus but edgier, and ame's self-insert who doesn't do anything of value because she's so OP she would solve all the problems in seconds. they're terrible. and more importantly they don't give the player any reason to give a shit.
the plot? there's no consistency so you can't get engaged. sometimes everything is deathly serious and pokémon get thrown into fucking volcanoes and people commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. but there's also shit like terra bashing the player with a hammer, sending them flying several kilometers and landing with zero injuries. is this supposed to be a realistic, dark world or a dumb cartoon? it hits every point on the spectrum multiple times, so the player just has to sit back and absorb the stupidity. when there are no rules, you can't logically think through the story.
the quest? even as a generic pokémon story it fucks things up. the ridiculous evil team plot overtakes everything once it gets established so you can't enjoy the typical route -> dungeon -> gym cycle. there are literally points where one of the characters says "hey i'm coincidentally the next gym leader, why don't you battle me while nothing's going on." no gym or anything, it just happens. some of the actual leaders you fight in their gym don't even give you badges, usually because they die immediately after you battle them. and yet there's a point where you battle a ghost and that gets you a badge?
