Only use mons that are from this region (unless they got a new evolution like Gloom), so all the Kantomons are out
Don't use Legendaries, so no using Lugia/Ho-oh
Don't use mons that got a new evolution in a later gen, so no Togetic or Murkrow
Don't use TMs other than those that can be bought or re-obtained in some other way (The reason for this is so I can use those TMs when breeding mons for the Frontier instead)
So my real choices were Noctowl, Crobat, Xatu, Delibird or Skarmory
I used both Hoothoot and Zubat early on and Hoothoot was more useful in early game so Zubat got replaced by other monds
Delibird is not useable without TMs. Actually even with TMs it just has awful stats.
Xatu has a trash learnset. It's first Psychic move is Future Sight which is not ideal at all, and it learns it at level 42, or 36 if I don't evolve it but then it can't use Fly either until it evolves.
Skarmory could've been good but it came so late that I'd rather stick to Noctowl which also is my sole Psychic user right now which is useful, while Skarmory would give me Steel STABs which don't hit any super effectiveness I can't already hit with other mons
