as a character design artist, i can sympathize with this. the more tedious characters tend to be more frustrating to deal with. makes more sense now why Gengar is his favorite too. it's fun and simple and looks good

I remember reading an anecdote about Toriyama, the creator of Dragonball, and how like 80% of the power creep was based on him not wanting to draw things. Why don't sayans have tails now? Didn't want to draw the tails anymore. Why can Goku fly now? Didn't want to draw the flying nimbus anymore. Why can Goku teleport now? Didn't want to draw people flying anymore. Why can everyone go super sayan now? Didn't want to ink in everyone's hair anymore.

Dragon Ball never had any real power creep. We're told characters have bigger numbers, but they don't actually do anything different from what they did before.

In terms of what we actually see, the power levels never went beyond Roshi destroying the moon.

Standard in-battle feats like blowing up mountains and being so fast they look like they teleport haven't changed since early Z, but don't act like there's never been ANY visual indications of higher power levels.

Show, don't tell. DBZ has a bad tendency of telling instead of showing. We're told that the new bad guy is stronger than the previous ones, we don't actually see it. They just have a bigger number (power level) without anything to back it up.
